Urban wildlife experts said they were surprised a fox had attacked the children. One, John Bryant, said it was a "freakish event" that "doesn't make any sense".

"I have only heard of two cases in my 40 years of dealing with foxes, one of which turned out eventually to be a German Shepherd and the other a cat," he told BBC Radio 4's Today programme before the twins' mother had described seeing the fox.

Like I said its not normal and I won't fully believe it until I have solid proof he attacked un-provoked.

A fox is by no means a gentle animal, but they are usually the easily spooked kind and would more likely run than attack a person.

The only thing I can think of was it was either hungry, had rabies, or one of the children jumped up while he was next to them.

If a fox can run, he's going to. He won't attack unless there is no other way. Unless its a female defending her kits.
